Arran Rock & Blues Festival – A Celebration of Sound and Light
The Arran Rock and Blues Festival is always a highlight, and this year was no exception. From the moment the first chord rang out across the island, it was clear we were in for something special. I had the pleasure of photographing the energy, passion, and atmosphere that makes this event such a standout—not only musically, but visually too.
What struck me most as a photographer was the extraordinary lighting throughout the festival. From moody purples and piercing reds to the soft golden wash across instruments and faces, the lighting crew created a rich visual language to match the music. It wasn’t just about illumination—it helped tell the story of each performance.
The performances ranged from soulful solos and gritty blues riffs to powerful, high-octane rock vocals. The emotion and raw connection between the musicians and the crowd was palpable. Whether under the open skies at the day sessions or bathed in stage lights as the evening built towards a crescendo, there was always something arresting to capture.
I’ve included a selection of photographs here that try to reflect both the diversity of the music and the spirit of the festival—moments of deep concentration, joyous expression, and the occasional dram shared along the way.
This wasn’t just a feast for the ears—it was a joy for the lens too.
